5 Celebrities that Dreamed of Being Music Artists and Failed
"But We're Kinda Happy They Tried"
You've got to love the entertainment business nowadays with its "Blurred Lines." One second your favorite hip hop artist is topping the Billboard Charts and before you know it, you see a trailer for a new film with their face in the line up. Sometimes these transitions work in their favor but on many occasions, these attempts have just gone down in history as comedy relief. Here are 5 of my favorite attempts of well known celebrities who hoped to make it in the music industry.
5. Shaqueille O'Neal - I Know I Got Skillz
The first thing I noticed when watching this video is how scary it can actually appear. Here we have a group of people in the street when suddenly, a truck filled with smoke pulls up followed by a 7 foot by 9 inch man jumping out. What's even more alarming is that Shaq is on a stage over his audience, towering even higher than he already naturally does, appearing to be at least 5 feet taller than everyone around him. The song definitely has a 90s West Coast Hip Hop feel but I just can't get past Shaq's lyrics which don't match what we know about the NBA All Star. It get's worse when the midgets jump on stage.
4. Paris Hilton - Good Time ft. Lil Wayne
This most recent video from Paris Hilton is evidence that she didn't care what we thought about Stars are Blind. Maybe this Star is Tone Deaf. Maybe she also believed placing Lil Wayne on the track would be its saving grace. Whatever her reasons for attempting another shot at a music career, it is obvious that auto tune had a lot to do with her voice being somewhat tolerable throughout the song. Paris just wants to party, as she clearly states over and over again. I could definitely party to the instrumental version of this track.
3. Kim Kardashian - Jam (Turn it Up)
Turn it up? How about mute it? Let's try that one first because that's the only way anyone with good hearing can stomach watching the video. If the DJ is actually playing your "Jam" I do hope its not your song because 1. Everyone currently in the club would quickly vacate; and 2. The DJ would be looking for a new job. What's confusing about the video is how much it doesn't match anything Kim is singing or cooing. She asks the DJ to to turn it up because its her jam and she's supposedly out having fun but the video just shows Kim standing around in different locations, posing for a camera. Its as though her lyrics are going North while the video just goes West.
2. David Hasselholff - Hooked on a Feeling
If you were a Knight Rider fan, this sudden change in Michael Knight must have been... alarming. For a while, I was confused and at times, I still am when watching this video but I have come to accept this eccentric side of David Hasselholff and thank him for giving us this terribly entertaining song. I thank Mr. Hassleholff for making me feel a little more sane every time I watch the video. I can't help but wonder, did his brain really get baked in the sun on the set of Baywatch?
1. Eddie Murphy - Party All the Time
Oh Eddie, you will never live this one down. If your girl just wanted to party all the time, she was most likely looking for a way to avoid listening to your horrible song. When walking up to the mic, it almost seems like Eddie could have a change of heart, "Maybe I should just tell a joke," but instead, he chooses to sing. What makes this video even more entertaining is Rick James encouraging him from the control room and eventually joining him on the mic. If you are a fan of Dave Chappelle and have watched Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Story, you understand just how hilarious this video actually is. "What Am I Going to Do About My Ears Eddie Murphy?!?!?"
You are so on point here. Shaq was wack. "I know got skillz" should have a question mark behind it. Lol
